This was a generous, engaging conversation with Nicki Williams – postmenopause, embracing ageing, and how to work with our own internalised ageism, among other things …
I love Joyce Harper’s podcast and all her works! Here we are talking about dozens of things, including sea swimming, menopause, possibility and exercise.
The Middling Along podcast is much beloved in the menosphere and I very much enjoyed my conversation with Emma Thomas. Among other things in this recording we look at a more global view of menopause, the perspective gained in postmenopause, and tackling our internalised ageism.
I hugely enjoyed recording this conversation on menopause, ageing, mortality, loss, and hope for Natalie Fraser’s brilliant Existential Offerings.
I had a gorgeous time talking menopause and postmenopause and POSSIBILITY with Dr Anne-Sophie Barmen’s & Paulo Ribeiro for the Headstrong Counselling‘s Trainee Podcast. It was epecially lovely for me as Headstrong was my first placement and Paulo my first ever supervisor. Headstrong’s values around inclusion and equalities shone out in my placement, right from the start. Delighted to be asked to share my research for the lovely Trainee Podcast – which also has plenty to offer the experienced therapist/counsellor.
Magnificent Midlife is an amazing podcast and I was honoured when rachael Lancaster asked me to join her to talk midlife (or last act!), menopause, postmenopause, ageism, misogyny, pleasure, joy, and all the rest …
I love Kate Codrington‘s work, so I especially enjoyed talking to her about my work and where our thinking and feeling connect. I found this a precious conversation – I hope you do too. Link to our conversation page.
Radical Acts of Creative Ageing
I had a delicious conversation about ageing, possibility – and our ageist culture – with Farrell Renowden for CADA, which you can listen to in podcast, or read the fanzine version here.
Here’s an interview I did recently with Dani Binnington of Menopause and Cancer, a great organisation doing some vital work. We talk about menopause and cancer (of course), but also about the pressure to ‘perform’ cancer brilliantly, the push to only be ‘brave’, ‘strong’, all those other terms that ask us to not only survive illness and difficult treatments, but to do it in a way that doesn’t allow space for the hard stuff. And, of course, it’s exactly this insisted-upon positivity that is so problematic when we’re already ill, already struggling. It’s ok for it to be hard.
BACP’s magazine has a section called Analyse Me, where therapists talk about their own inspirations and interests. Here’s a PDF with my interview on yoga, writing, meaning, meaninglessness, good books, and what I did before I was a therapist.

of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP)

I had a great conversation with BACP’s Threshold’s editor Amy McCormack. We included Buddhism, illness, groundlessness and joy in a wide-ranging discussion about transitions and change. Podcast and article link here.
Dr Sharon Blackie’s book Hagitude is about reimagining mid-life and later life, with a particular interest in the menopause transition. Her podcast for the book is the Hagitude Sessions, our conversation is listed in her link on 31st October 2022.

With fellow therapist Chris Cleave I run existential writing workshops, largely for therapists to date, although we feel this work has great resonance for all writers. Here’s a paper we wrote about our first workshop for the Society for Existential Analysis.
